Dear Friends:
I am pleased to welcome you to the dedication ceremonies for the Maryland Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Your presence here today shows that you too are proud that this worthy project has been completed. We honor today, not only those who gave their lives in that long and difficult war, or are missing, but those who, by their service, showed that they were willing to sacrifice their lives as well.
This beautiful monument in its magnificent setting will be a stirring reminder to those who see it today and who come after, that our future is secured by our past.
As governor, I feel special pride that Maryland is dedicating a monument to all our citizens who took part in the Vietnam War. Through this monument, we have underscored the longstanding traditions of honor and patriotism associated with our state, from before the founding of the United States until this time.
My congratulations to the members of the Maryland Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission and to all those who worked so selflessly to accomplish this goal.
Sincerely,
