Huey Gently enters our hearts
Dedication day photo Huey approaching Our Restored Huey Helicopter

On November 9, 1996 with several hundred spectators and well-wishers looking on, VVA Chapter 451 dedicated it's refurbished Huey Combat helicopter at the Chapter home at Ft. Holabird.

Former 116th Helicopter Assault Company Commander
Major General Hank Small delivered a brief keynote address.

"In all my days of soldiering, never had I seen a bunch of 18, 19, and 20 year olds display such courage, such loyalty, and such dedication, as the crew of these Huey helicopters.

Feeling invincible, these wonderful American boys show a complete disrespect for common sense."

Dennis Noah, a combat medic whose life had been saved on numerous occasions by the daring of the Huey crews, spoke on behalf of Chapter 451.

"Three major reasons explain this mornings dedication.  First, as a memorial to our fallen comrades and their inestimable courage; second, as

an educational tool for America's youth, a testimony to the complexities of war; and third, as a proud symbol of service to our nation and our community, and as a call to reluctant Vietnam Veterans to join this fine organization.  Besides, it's really cool.  How many veterans groups have their own sharp-looking helicopter to adorn the the front lawn."

Special thanks goes to Jim Henthorn, who found most of the surplus parts to make the restoration possible, and then installing them, Mrs Robyn Astaire, the late dancer's widow, who bore much of the the expense, and to Project Director Jack Tarr and all of those that worked to make this project a success.
