Rededication of the Maryland Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Events began on Friday evening May 28, 1999 with a Candlelight Service, lead by Chaplain Jackson Day.  The service which included selected readings, a Cobra fly over, and reading of the 1046 names inscribed upon the Memorial was an extremely moving start for the three day event.

On Saturday evening a gala DMZ to Maryland Dinner and Dance was held at the Inner Harbor Marriott Hotel.  It was an unforgettable evening of  friendship and fellowship.

Then on Sunday morning at exactly 11:00 AM  a 21 gun salute began, a Baltimore City Fireboat pumped water high into the sky,  and  three Cobra Helicopters flew over the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge as a parade of Honor Guards from around the State marched across the bridge leading to the Maryland Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Ceremonies at the memorial included comments from Various City and State Officials, US Senator Paul Sarbanes, and  moving comments from Brigadier General John C. Schnell and Gold Star Mother Catherine Manion.  A second reading of the 1046 names was completed.   A laying of wreaths followed and taps concluded the ceremonies.

The 3 days of activities concluded with an open house at Chapter 451 where an excellent spread of food was set out and fellowship continued into the evening hours.
